I have been a teacher for 20 years. For the first 4 years, I taught French and Spanish to elementary students. Than I got my own third grade classroom, and I love third grade!
For Reading, I alternate between guided reading and literacy centers. Some weeks I do use the basal if the story lines up with a special event - like Chinese New Year, National Braille Month, etc. For Math, I do mini-lessons and let the kids try it out. I go around the room and check in with the kids to see where they need help. Additionally, I do class meetings because the kids' feelings are very important.
