With a BA, MA, and MEd in English and English Education, I have taught high school and college, both full time and part time, in public, private, for-profit and non-profit educational institutions. I earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Curriculum and Instruction where I spent much of my research time investigating writing in middle and high school classes. As a writing across the curriculum advocate, my hope is to make writing assignments easier for different subject area teachers by providing writing assignments with detailed grading rubrics.
I love using rubrics. I was first introduced to them early in my career but didn't truly understand them until years later. Once I figured out that there was no magic rubric, I worked hard to make them fit into my grading structure and teaching style. Most rubrics equally weigh each grading criteria and are limited to 4 or 5 point scales. Neither of these work for my grading style. Based on grading scales that use percentages, my rubrics are created with flexibility of grading in mind. I have created my own magic rubric to share with others. I also enjoy creating writing assignments and complimentary grading rubrics to make writing assignments more accessible to those who want to integrate more writing into their curriculums but don't have the time to spend developing assignments and rubrics.
I have had the honor of working with many fine educators throughout my career. Best Mom Award every year since 2008.
