As an undergraduate student at the American University in Cairo (AUC), I participated in the English Literacy Program (ELP), where I taught English as a second language. After I graduated from university, I took the CELTA course at the British Council in Cairo. I also taught an Academic Writing course at St. Andrew's Refugee Services. Lastly, during my graduate studies at AUC, I worked with experienced ESL teachers and taught in the Intensive English Program (IEP) for two years.
I believe that while it is true that learners, regardless of their proficiency level, should be given many opportunities to practice their language production, they should also be provided a great deal of comprehensible input. Therefore, I think that learners benefit more from an optimal combination of both, output-based and input-based instruction. I also believe maintaining an interactive classroom is important for ESL learners, so I always try to monitor my talking time to make my class more student-centered. I also create project-based opportunities for learning. I am always eager to experiment with teaching methods and strategies I have not tried yet. I reflect on my lesson plans and teaching performance by writing a short paragraph after each lesson I teach. I am also interested in issues related to second-language teaching methods, classroom management strategies, student characteristics and individual differences, and language assessment.
I have a Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from the British Council in Cairo after gaining some ESL teaching experience. I also received certificates of appreciation from the American University in Cairo (AUC) after participating in the English Literacy Program (ELP) and from St. Andrew's Refugee Services (StARS) after teaching an Academic Writing course.
I minored in Linguistics during my undergraduate studies at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC). I also have a Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) from AUC.
