TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in Opera and Musical Theater. In addition to performing in countless professional and community theater productions, I founded and performed with a theater company in San Francisco that won the "Best of Theater" award from the San Francisco Weekly. Before choosing to become a teacher, I also worked as a public broadcasting journalist and wrote and produced features for various news programs on National Public Radio, Public Television and international news magazines. I hold a Master's of Arts in Teaching from USC and currently teach middle school theater arts at a Title 1 school in a large urban district.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe learning should be fun but also rigorous. Many students come to my theater classroom expecting to have fun, but many students are also nervous about having to perform in front of others. I believe in creating a safe and nurturing environment that will help students explore their creative process while mastering content area standards. My theater classroom is heavily project-based, emphasizing group-work, cooperation and artistic discipline.
