I am in my 13th year of teaching secondary education. I spent my first seven years teaching 7th and 8th grade English and creative writing. I was also the advisor for the literary newspaper and coached debate and forensics. I am currently in my 6th year teaching high school English and creative writing. While I am currently teaching IB/AP seniors, I've also taught seniors, juniors, IB sophomores, honors sophomores, and freshman repeaters. In addition, I teach composition at the local community college. I am currently serving in my second year as a mentor teacher for a Teacher Immersion Program, which pairs a student teacher with me for the entire year. This school year, I am coaching our high school debate team and serving as the advisor for the school's literary journal, as well as hosting the annual literary festival. I am a poet with an MFA in Creative Writing/Poetry. My poems have been published in several local and national literary journals, and I have been a featured reader at a number of local festivals.
I teach with passion and encourage collaborative writing and creative approaches to engage students.
