I taught mathematics in Maryland for 4 years. Then, I moved to Pennsylvania (with my husband), and have been long/short term substituting for the past 3 years. Now I am pregnant, and I do not know if I will be going back into classroom (I can hope though!), so I am sharing my materials with my fellow teachers.
I start by reviewing the homework from the previous night, while asking for questions from the work. Then, I review the concepts for today's lesson. Then, I give guided work (having the students try problems with a partner or independently), then reviewing these problems as a group. If most/all of the students can complete these problems, then I give them time to start the homework. While everyone is working, I walk around and try to give the students pointers if they are having issues, and praise those completing the problems correctly.
AP-Liaison to the School Board, which has allowed me work with AP teachers and the School Board to cater the materials to the student's needs.
I graduated with my Undergraduate degree in 2008, and am currently taking some additional classes in the past several years to go toward my Master's Degree.
