I have been a special education teacher for 20 years. I have worked with children with varying challenges from birth to adulthood. Included in my experience is 5 years of strictly evaluating children. I spent another 5+ years supervising other professionals who evaluated children. In addition I have presented many inservices. Addressing behavioral challenges is considered to be my forte.
Philosophy: "No one is free unless he is independent." - Maria Montessori In addition to my traditional training as a teacher, I am also certified in Montessori education. Therefore my philosophy is based on helping every child reach his high level of independence by using the physical classroom to encourage positive behaviors and independence. Also, I believe it is equally important to teach the children how to regard each other and treat each other as friends no matter what their ability levels are. We spend the majority of our time working on what a good friend is and how to be one. Because many of the children I work with do not learn incidentally, I have created materials the "unlock" the mystery of how to be a good friend by specifically telling them through book format how to listen, pay attention, share, etc. we have seen miraculous things happen when the books are used consistently and over a long enough timeframe. I hope you will experience the same miracles we have. It truly is joyous.
