I started teaching in 2009 at an inner city high school. The following year I was bumped and taught 5th grade ELL. I spent a year teaching 6-8 ELL at another middle school in the district I'd been working in. in 2012 I left to work closer to home teaching mainstream 8th grade ELA and Social Studies. I spent a year teaching at a private language school for adults after that. Finally I landed in my current position teaching beginner ELL students in grades 7-8 for ELA and Social Studies. While working in these different positions that one thing that's stayed the same is my job as an adjunct professor at night.
I try to create in environment where students participate in the instruction and then break off to do independent explorations to help them practice learning the content and new language in the different domains.
