I began my career as a regular substitute teacher for one year. This included a two month position as a first grade Teacher Assistant. I then worked as a third grade student teacher which led me to an interim with the same class. I have now spent the past four years teaching all subjects to the world's greatest fourth graders.
My teaching style can best be described as enthusiastic, fun loving, and positive. I know there is no science in that, but it works without research. I firmly believe that half of all learning happens by believing in yourself and realizing that learning is not about letter grades and state test scores; it is about being a little better and a little smarter each day. All that I ever ask of my students is that they give me their personal best every day.
Summa Cum Laude - Elementary Education; Teacher of the Week - NC Lottery; Best Teacher Ever by many students:)
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Berry College in Rome, Georgia in 1992. I returned to Mars Hill University as an adult and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 2009.
I have been very happily married to my wife for twenty-one years and am the proud father of four boys. We live in the mountains of Western North Carolina where we enjoy spending our free time hiking, kayaking the local rivers, and being outside in our gardens. The thing that I personally am most proud of is that prior to joining the educational community I spent eight years as a full time stay at home dad. At one point this entailed taking care of a newborn, a set of two and one-half year old twins, and a four year old.
