TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I was a K-1 self-contained mild/mod special ed aide for six years. I've taught within general education and special education for 10 years as a K-12 Education Specialist. I've taught 7-8th grade math in a self contained classroom and have co-taught an 8th grade ELA GE class. I've also worked as an Education Specialist online. I am currently a master teacher, a K-12 Special Education Teacher and Case Manager for a charter school.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I think it is important to gain the students' trust and use their background knowledge to help teach new skills/information. Learning should be fun and memorable for the student. Each child should be able to learn in their own style which means we, as teachers, should present the information in a variety of ways. I like to joke with the kids, create, talk, and play in addition to learning grade level, and standards based, information. I remind myself often that children each learn at their own pace and in their own way and it's up to me to present the information in a way that helps foster growth.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from high school and from there attended a junior college where I completed my general education coursework. From junior college I transferred to California Baptist University. I graduated with a BA in Liberal Studies and earned two teaching credentials. I have a Multiple Subject Credential (Clear) and an Education Specialist Credential (Clear). I've completed the coursework for a Masters of Science in Special Education.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I've traveled all over the world. I've worked with children in Cambodia who were sold into human trafficking and have also worked with Kenyan children who were orphaned due to AIDS. I also have written various lessons for non-denominational church Bible studies and have even written a woman's retreat curriculum.
