I have spent 17 years in the public school system in Savannah,GA. I taught for 15 years in two inner city schools. I taught pre-k, k, and first grades. Three of those 15 years were spent as a literacy coach during the Reading First grant. The last 2 years of my classroom experience was spent in 3rd grade at a surburban Savannah school. All of my teaching experience with the exception of pre-k was as an inclusion teacher. I now work for the Governor's Office of Student Achievement where I focas my attention on differentiated instruction in reading and the common core standards in 3 inner city schools in Savannah.
My classroom and my instruction was student focused. My students only did whole group for abut 15 minutes of my math, science, and social studies blocks. We spent about 30 minutes in whole group during my literacy block. The rest of my instruction was done through small group and center instruction based on data and student needs.
