I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a major in Education and a minor in Biology. I became dual certified in Biology and Mathematics grades 6-12 but fell in love with teaching math. Straight out of college I began teaching grades 6-8 math at a local middle school.
I am a very hands on person and enjoy innovative activities that allow students to get their hands on the materials. I can not stand drill and kill practice but would rather see students apply their skills to real world situations. I constantly ask the question "Why" for students to understand the power of thought. I am a firm believer in stations especially in the middle school grades to keep the classroom live and captivate students minds.
During my college days, I was a four year member on the Dean's List and was a very proud recipient of many scholarships including Florida Bright Futures, Take Stock in Children, Shausnessy Scholarship, The Paul Opry Scholarship, First Generation Grant and finally The Florida Pell Grant. I worked extremely hard and dedicated every fiber of energy to earn those rewards. It is also because of a TEACHER that I chose education as my career!
I grew up in Naples, Florida and stayed because this is such a beautiful town. My husband is also a native and we both attended local public schools. My first teaching position was actually at the same middle school that I attended as a child!
I have two children, who bring laughter and love in to our home and I am blessed because of it! Children are the light in this world and I love seeing their personalities shine through.
