This will be my sixteenth year teaching overall with it being my elevehth year in sixth grade. We team teach in learning communities in our school so I focus on history for our three classes as well as one math class and one language arts class. I have my master's degree in administration however I have yet to take that leap. Other than sixth grade, I taught fourth grade for three years, first grade for one year (oh wow!) and a year as an elementary PE teacher. With all that in mind, I do think I have found my niche in sixth grade though as I love this age!
As I already said, we teach in learning communities of three teachers and this will be my nineth year teaching this way. I love it and love my co-teachers. I can't imagine not teaching this way and am so happy that my entire school district (it's pretty small) has moved all sixth graders to this format. I believe in having high expectations of my students in all areas, academically and behaviorally. I feel that my team has had great success with this philosophy.
Teacher of the Year for my school in 2009
Guess I jumped ahead. I graduated with my bachelors degree from the University of Nevada Reno and then went on a few years later to get my master's in administration from the University of Phoenix.
I live in my little town and have four amazing children who range in age from sixteen down to five. I love riding my horses when I get the time and continue to peck away at a novel for the teenage group. The majority of my free time is spent supporting my kids in their multitudes of activities so I really have very little time to myself. I do, however, make sure to get up most mornings at 5am for my workout with some wonderful ladies and spend quality time with my navy soldier whenever I can snag him!
