32 years teaching secondary math. I've been in rural and urban school districts. I have taught gifted, special ed., LEP, and every kid between! I have taught these math classes: Math Models, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Cal, Test-Prep for: EOC's, ACT, SAT, and TSI. I have tutored elementary students through calculus students. I've always had a passion for math and it is awesome that now I'm sharing my math ideas and resources!
I've seen all types of teaching trends come and go. I adapt to what I feel is best for my students at the time. I like to start the year off with students in rows. High school students get comfortable fast, so I like to establish some discipline procedures first. The first six weeks, I will do a lot of direct teach and note taking and start some partner work. The second and third six weeks, I tend to do a lot of partner work and take the partners and turn them toward each other for groups of 4. By the end of the year, the desks are turned for groups of four with cooperative learning taking place on a daily basis.
