I feel like I have been teaching my whole life. Officially, I have taught for three years and have a masters degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. I am currently a stay at home mother/teacher.
I believe that students learn best through discovery and guided interaction with peers. Students all learn differently and at different rates. I like to build on prior knowledge and because I have worked in an integrated school system, I use a lot of differentiated instruction, so you will always see variations or alternatives in my lesson plans. My classroom is tightly run, but not micromanaged. For classroom management I focus on teaching and practicing some simple rules of courtesy and respect along with classroom procedures at the beginning of the year, giving expectations up front and always having challenging lessons planned. I am consistently tough but fair. If I believe the students can do it, they will too.
Yet to be added
I received my undergraduate degree in History with a minor in Political Science from Virginia Tech and then after 6 years in a sales position, I decided to come back and get a graduate degree in Social Studies Education. I just wanted the degree in my back pocket for when I decided to have a family. Well...I loved it and began teaching right out of grad school. I think the real world experience before going to grad school helped put the world in perspective. I have a better feel for what the kids will really need to be successful.
I am currently a stay at home mother, but want to stay sharp in curriculum building and on top of incorporating new technologies. This is why I have chosen to up load my current lesson plans and to create new one.
