We worked in a school with kids that have different disabilities from ages 8-21, The whole reason why we started working with disabled kids is because we have a sister that is handicapped. Her name is Lauren and she is 32yrs old and she has Lennox Gastaut Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. She is the whole reason to why we are working with the population that we are. She has given us so much love and affection for them. We truly enjoy working with each and every one of the students each year we are there. It's a true blessing knowing we can touch each students life one day at a time. It's the best feeling in the world!
We are very fun and creative with our styles.. We focus mainly on colors, shapes, numbers, alphabet, sorting, categorizing, matching and mainly getting the children interested in our activities. We always love to use colorful images, fun graphics and cool looking fonts to get there attention drawn to the activity whether it's a SMARTboard activity, book or worksheet we've put together. That's the key - make sure you get the child interested in the world they are doing.
No honors or awards as of now.
We are going off of what we know from our work expierence and other teaching ways. We sort of just put that all together and go off our own little creativity path, and it works. We always look at different perspectives and see what other teachers/speech therapists use and try and create things from that. So we can just simply say we just get our creativity from what we've seen over the years.
We are very big into hands on activities such as books with interactive pieces using laminate and velcro and now the biggest thing in our school is SMARTboard. So with that we are always creating activities using lots of color, vibrant images, fun fonts and cool subjects to keep the child's interest in the lesson. Our intention is whatever makes the child do the activity whether it's that we put games and songs at the end of them so they can look forward to a fun way to end the lesson.
