I have roughly 10 years experience teaching ESL in various university and college prep ESL programs. My favorite aspect of teaching was and continues to be curriculum development. I also have experience teaching ESL learners in local elementary schools and summer enrichment programs. I began homeschooling my oldest daughter in 2005, and as my homeschooling commitments increased, I eventually phased out my ESL teaching. Currently I homeschool my eight children in grades K-11. We use several different curricula and methods, and I have enjoyed adapting the skills I learned in the classroom to a more relaxed home setting.
My teaching style is intensely practical and incredibly flexible. I change plans quickly when I sense I am wasting my time. I love the flexibility that homeschooling allows. My childrens' learning styles vary greatly, as do their academic strengths and weaknesses. It is both a challenge and a pleasure to find new ways to peak their interest and make learning a joy.
I am a mother of eight beautiful and lively children, and I consider this my greatest honor. My awards so far are seeing them flourish!
My undergraduate degree is in English Literature with a minor in Spanish. My Master's degree is in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
I published a children's book several years ago called Billy Blue the Caribou. It was designed to teach my oldest daughter about how we think and communicate with others. I may eventually list it on TPT. It is a family favorite!
