A great way to introduce middle school to the analysis of poems is through songs! I love doing song lyric analysis with my students, and they enjoy getting the opportunity to listen to music in class especially when they get the opportunity to share

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my fourth year as a certified classroom teacher. I taught high school English for two years in Arizona and will be starting my second year of middle school in California.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like for the learning in my classroom to be pretty student-centered, so I try and create activities where students can collaborate and produce their own work frequently. I also teach in a low-income area with a high number of Special Education students and English Learners, so scaffolding and guided notes are a must in my classroom. Next year I plan to switch to a standards-based grading approach which will be included in all the unit plans posted in my store!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was awarded the "Rookie of the Year" award after my first year of teaching. I have also had the honor of serving on school PBIS committees at both schools.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from a college preparatory charter high school in Phoenix, Arizona. I then went on to Arizona State University where I received my Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Education: English. I will begin my Masters in Curriculum Instruction and Design in the fall through Western Governors University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have always loved to perform and spent many hours in theaters and dance classes. I even coached competitive dance teams for 8 years. I am happily married to a Seabee in the U.S. Navy and am a proud dog and cat mom.
