I have taught math for 24years at both a local high school and community college.
My teaching style is very traditional, but I have always emphasized the understanding of the mathematics not the algorithm. I drive kids nuts by doing the same problem 2-3 different ways. However, by doing this it leads to good questions and help students who have different learning styles.
I won a few awards when I was younger, class sizes were smaller and I had more curricular freedom to explore. (BP teacher of excellence, Raven apple, finalist for PAESMT)
Masters of Education with a concentration in math education at Cambridge College, Boston. Graduate studies in Geophysics and Geochronology at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. B.S. in Geology and Physical science with a math minor and teaching certificate from Michigan State University (Go Green).
I completed my student teaching and decided that wasn't for me! Got married and moved to Alaska to study Geophysics at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Downturn in the economy resulted in me losing my grant and I had to get a real job. It was a great blessing, because I became a high school math teacher and have enjoyed the last 24 years.
