I have been a special education teacher for over 40 years. I taught deaf education for 22 years, resource and CDC for 12 years and Speech and Language Therapy for 6 years.
For the articulation kids, I do a lot of drill, using seasonal game-boards and giving loads of feedback. The kids all get a sticker at the end of the session if they have shown good effort. If not, I put a stamp on their chart. Language kiddos also participate in game-like activities, but using skills such as finishing analogies, using homophones in sentences, identifying fact or opinion, answering WH and other questions, role-playing, sequencing, forming sentences and questions, etc. ALWAYS with much positive feedback, and lots of "I knew you could do it" encouragement.
Presidential Award for Math and Science teaching.
