I am beginning my tenth year of teaching. I did my student teaching in second grade, and have taught fourth grade, fifth grade, and reading intervention. I currently teach ELA and social studies to fifth graders. I have also served as secretary, treasurer, membership director, and president of ACIRA, our local council branch of the state reading organization.
I love my students and we love having fun together. I believe that students need to question and discover things on their own, so much of our class time is spent doing collaborative, hands-on work. I try my best to provide my students with as much support as possible while helping them learn autonomy and independence.
I have received numerous grants, including two ACIRA literacy grants, one SCIRA literacy grant, and an Savannah River Nuclear Solutions mini-grant.
I graduated from the University of South Carolina-Aiken in December of 2004. Since then, I have acquired 18 additional credit hours towards a Master's Degree.
I'm a fifth grade teacher who loves my job. Even when I'm off work, I'm constantly creating new lessons and coming up with new ideas for my students. When I'm not working on "school stuff" I'm usually reading or watching Game of Thrones or Doctor Who with my husband. :)
