I have over 19 years of teaching experience in the education field, including eight years of working with students in the areas of Specific Learning Disabilities and Emotional Behavioral Disabilities, grades kindergarten through six. I taught first and second grades as a primary classroom teacher for an additional five years. I am currently a Reading Specialist in Northern Wisconsin in an AMAZING school district filled with very talented teachers, staff and students! In addition, I teach as Adjunct Faculty working with teachers to gain the Reading Teacher degrees. Life is busy!
I believe in solid, integrated teaching that intentionally focuses on thinking and underlying skills, while being developmentally appropriate with a fun factor as well! My guide when planning solid literacy instruction follows: "Broad thematic exposure through integrated-subject teaching is brain-compatible teaching that corrals students’ attention, stimulates their engagement as learners and provides real-life experiences as hooks for active remembering.” -Building the Reading Brain, PreK-3

Why I work with children... "Children are not the people of tomorrow, but are people of today. They have a right to be taken seriously, and to be treated with tenderness and respect. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be. 'The unknown person' inside each of them is our hope for the future." -- Janusz Korczak
