After teaching 3rd grade for 6 years, I moved to 2nd grade and have been there for the last couple years. I have worked in the same school for my entire career and work with amazing people. It is amazing the difference there is between 2nd and 3rd grade, and I really enjoyed the grade level switch.
There is a quote I read recently that I feel sums up my teaching style: "If teachers know a precise learning destination and consistently check to see where students are relative to that destination, differentiation isn't just an option; it's the logical next step in teaching." I aim to provide for my students what they need each and every day, and try to utilize multiple activities and strategies to make this happen.
At this time, I have no honors or awards to post here.
I have my Master's Degree in Education, with a Reading Specialist concentration. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education with a double major in Language Arts and Social Studies, and am certified to teach up through the 8th grade in either subject.
Originally from a small town in Michigan, I moved to the greater DC area almost 8 years ago...culture shock would be putting it mildly, but moving and living here has been a great decision. While at times I miss "home", I also feel at home in my life here, and am greatful for the people in my life who have become my family here! I bought my own home a few years ago, and have been enjoying one home improvement project after the next. My two kitties, Roscoe & Reagan, round out my family and they make me laugh almost every day. I guess, in a nutshell, that's me! :)
