TEACHING EXPERIENCE

We are a mother-daughter teaching duo with a combined 32 years’ experience in grades 2-8. Tammy currently teaches 3rd Grade ELA at an elementary school in Duval County, Florida; Katie teaches 8th Grade Science and ELA at a middle school in the Chicago suburbs. We’re both passionate about reading and language arts, content-area literacy, and authentic, engaging writing for students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Our literacy heroes are Dr. Steven Layne, the Sisters, Nancie Atwell, Lucy Calkins, Kelly Gallagher, Penny Kittle, etc. We both love the workshop model of ELA instruction and are passionate about authentic student choice in reading and writing.

Tammy is a two-time Teacher of the Year at her elementary in Duval County, Florida.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Tammy holds a masters degree in Educational Technology from Jacksonville University. Her bachelor’s in Elementary Education is from Eastern Illinois University. Katie holds a bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University and has a masters in Ed. Tech in progress from Concordia University Chicago.
