I started teaching first grade in 2004 and switched it up after three years to spend some quality time in the upper grades. I took a quick break to be home with a brand-new baby but couldn't kick the teaching habit and in 2010 I started a small preschool. I returned to public schools in 2012 to what I can only describe as a dream job: An integrated visual arts teacher working with grades K-5! I was able to serve as a District Arts Coordinator during the 2012-2013 school year and participate in discussions at a state level about the promotion and creation of a new arts endorsement which enabled me to see how much the arts impacted students at all levels of education.
My teaching style is generally reflective of my own extremely visual learning style and includes a variety of hands-on activities and projects. As a teacher I learned quickly that there is no single method that works for every student and I try to provide a balance between all learning styles. Classroom activities that are creative, different, and open-ended-- that actually make students think critically--have made the most successful environments for my students.
Shining Moment: My first teacher-lebrity moment of being “recognized” at Wal-Mart by a student.
B.S. Elementary Education (Art Minor); M.Ed (In Progress); Current Elem. Ed. License with an ESL endorsement and an Art endorsement (In Progress).
I have been happily married for ten years and when I am not chasing my Kindergartener and his little sister around the house, I am trying to survive my beautiful set of toddler twins. Needless to say, free time is at a premium so I generally spend those lovely, quiet evening hours using up my creative energy on my computer because after my hubs and the kids, technology is my one great love.
