Over the past 10 years, I have taught secondary English in urban schools with incredible success. Many of the students I have taught over the years were reading two or more grade levels below their current grade levels and lacked disciplined writing skills. After analyzing classic literature with Urban Achievement Curricula, more than half of my students increased their literacy levels to PROFICIENT and ADVANCED on rigorous standards based assessments as compared to their peers city wide! As an alum of UCLA's Teacher Education Program, I am very passionate about helping students achieve academic success despite possible learning challenges and socioeconomic status. The Urban Achievement CCSS based Curricula specifically designed for some of most popular English Classics are designed to engage students of all learning levels, increase reading comprehension as well as writing fluency, and improve literacy proficiency as measured by teacher observation in addition to local and national assessments. Thank you for choosing Urban Achievement Curricula to increase your students' academic achievement!
The warm/strict management style in my classroom is utilized to motivate students to analyze complex text while allowing them space to have fun learning. Urban Achievement Curricula include Social Justice components to challenge students to analyze and respond to social injustices using literature, informational text and personal research. Knowledge and concept mastery are expressed via well written compositions addressing rigorous prompts, formal presentations, synthesis projects, comprehension assessments and other culminating tasks. Critical thinking activities are used throughout the units to monitor student progress.

Over the duration of my teaching career, my love for teaching health and wellness as auxiliary courses led me to acquire my Nutrition Therapy Practitioner certification.
