TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teaching music since 1991, professional percussionist and composer. Mentor to many youth heading for college/university studies in music. Founder and director of the All City Stage Band Project, The Jazz Shoppe and the Musical Literacy Drum Circle.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Very experiential and constructivist. I use lots of humour and lots of hands on manipulatives, scaffolding, visual and audio cues. Breaking things down into manageable progressions de-mystifies subjective arts like music into easily comprehensible and assessment-ready tasks.

Studied music through secondary school, with three grade 13 courses ( Vocal, Instrumental, Music History/Analysis) B.F.A. (Spec.Hons.) Music Performance 1991, York University B.Ed. (J/I Music) 2008, York University Qualified Basic - J/I Music Ontario College of Teachers, 2008. Additional Basic Qualification - Senior Division, Health and Physical Education. M.Ed. (in progress) 2009 York University.
