2016-2017 will be my 10th year as a teacher; my first 3 in k-5 SPED and then 2nd grade (regular ed). I knew teaching was my vocation the first day I stepped foot in a real classroom as a five-year-old child. I love finding and creating hands-on activities for my students, as I believe worksheets in general are too much "work" and kids are learners, not workers!
I believe in allowing students to express themselves and it's my job as a teacher to help them explore these expressions as they learn. I also love sneaking in crafty projects (especially glitter!) into as many lessons as possible, especially in reading!
I was chosen Teacher of the Year for 2013-2014 by fellow educators at Burnt Chimney Elementary School.
I graduated Roanoke College in 2007 with a B.A. in Religion with a minor in Elementary Education.
I live in rural southwest Virginia with my husband and two furry babies, Toby and Elsie. I spend most of my spare time (spare? what's that!?!) working as the Children's Programs Director at my church (I get to plan all the fun stuff!) and messing around in my craft room. I LOVE making things for my school kiddos and sharing things I've created with others.
