Currently I am teaching AP Language and Sophomore English. In recent years I have also taught Fundamentals English for Sophomores. Over the course of my teaching career I have taught English Language Arts (grades 7-12) across the country and in both public & private schools. I have taught in two different title I schools teaching 7th & 8th grade ELA and reading. On the other side of the spectrum, I worked at a private school that was part of The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program; I taught Sophomore English with an IB focus. In addition to my full-time teaching, I have experience as an adult educator teaching Beginning College Writing & PRAXIS test prep.
I believe that my role as a teacher is not only about teaching a curriculum, but about creating a safe and positive learning environment that allows studentst to explore and learn. I believe students should be able to connect what they learn in the classroom with their lives outside of school; thefore, much of my curriculum encourages students to inquire about the world around them, and their roles within the world and their communities. As a registered yoga instructor, I incorporate opportunities every day that allow students time for stillness through meditation and other mindful practices. Mindful practices - particularly meditation - have been a regular part of my teaching practice for the past 5 years.

I love the benefits of yoga and meditation in my own life and believe there is a valid place for these practices in our schools as a way to support teacher and student wellness. I began researching the effects of yoga and meditation on student behavior and learning in 2013, and have been implementing a daily meditation practice into my English classes since 2014.
