TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a tenured English Language Arts educator with experience teaching middle school students in New York City’s public school system. I have taught 6th, 7th, 8th grade G&T, honors, ICT, ENL, and general education students English and Health. I briefly taught 9th grade English Language Arts. I've also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, teaching English Composition II at Southern New Hampshire University. I'm currently certified to teach grades 5-12 in the state of New York.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I mainly use a student-centered approach to learning in my classroom which involves students sharing in decision-making, giving them the opportunity to have a voice and lead discussions, and work collaboratively in group projects to demonstrate their understanding of literature and writing.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am member of The National Society of Leadership & Success, Sigma Alpha Pi. I'm also a member of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, Alpha Phi Beta chapter. I am a recipient of the SUNY, ESC Alumni/Student Federation Scholarship Award. I'm also a recipient of the SUNY, ESC School for Graduate Studies Dean’s Medal.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I'm currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a concentration in Contemporary Fiction from Southern New Hampshire University. I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus in English Education from SUNY, Empire State College. In addition, I've taken graduate courses such as Linguistics, and Literary Theory. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in American Literature and an Associate of Arts in English from SUNY, Empire State College. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and educated in local public schools.
