I have taught in public schools, enrichment class in private schools, Sunday school and home school for more than 25 years. I also ran a small boarding school and taught foreign students English so that they can enter the local schools. I home schooled our children and they both got some of the highest scholarships at the University of Arlington. They both did very well in their ACT. I have taught many students from all over the world including China, Indonesia, Singapore, US, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea and Japan. I enjoy teaching.
My teaching style is to make teaching fun, interactive, hands-on and challenging as well. I believe that the child learns the most when their five senses are involved. Take for example the topic on trees. A tree has many parts like a trunk, leaves, branches, flowers, roots, etc. Yet, there are different types of trees like fruit trees and trees for making into things. Let's say, you bring out the apple, orange, banana and a pear and ask them where do they come from. You show them a picture, a book or a you tube clip on an apple tree or banana tree. The child begin to understand his or her world as to where the food comes from and how they grow. Then, they can read books on Johnny Appleseed or "The Giving Tree" and so forth. So there is language arts, science and geography involved. You can draw an apple tree and some apples (cut them up) and do addition and subtraction and make it fun. Go online and learn how to draw trees. Have the child write about their favorite tree and do a research paper on it. It is such an exciting journey when you can stretch your teaching and learning into different dimensions. "Charlotte urges us to give children a regular feeding of ideas through sweeping tales of history, wonderful inventions and discoveries in science, lives of great men and women, stories that radiate the moral life as well as paintings, plays, Psalms, poems, symphonies-and everything else wonderful we can think of. She says these ideas are the children's bread of life." Karen Andreola
My awards would be having home schooled our 2 beautiful daughters who are now studying at the University of Texas, Arlington, one on Outstanding Freshman Scholarship and the other on the President Scholarship. Having taught and tutored many students and some are now doctors and lawyers. I am blessed and honored that the Lord has given me talents and desires to educate and help many children attain their potential.
I graduated from the Catholic Junior College in Singapore and have gone for training in Early Childhood Education, teaching ESL and other training.
I have a great love for reading, drawing and cooking. I have traveled quite a lot and have been to 8 countries in Europe, 8 countries in Asia and many states in the US. I love to travel and try new foods. I have worked as a missionary before and enjoy different cultures and language. I hope to write products that are clear, thorough and creative for the young minds to think and gain knowledge. P.S. We have a lovely pet at home, a cocker spaniel named Tebow.
