I began my teaching career in a small town whose population was mostly migrant students. I began teaching in second grade and loved it. The following year I taught second grade but with a class of ALL BOYS!!! Our school had gender classes and because I run a class that allows students to move and to be physically active for learning they saw me as a perfect fit for the boys. I was then asked to teach 5th grade science because we were in need of a revamp on our science instruction because of poor performance on past FCAT. After two years in fifth I moved to a new school in my home district where I now teach all subject areas in 6th. In our district 6th is still part of the elementary school. I am now in my second year of teaching 6th and am loving it.
I am all about making students forget that they are learning and want to make everything as engaging as possible. Even the way something is presented such as on task cards rather than a worksheet can make a student not realize that it is "school work". My goal is to never have a workbook touch my students hands! I believe in collaboration and students taking ownership of their learning through myself being the facilitator and them being the discoverers.
I received teacher of the year for 2015-2016 which was an amazing honor.
Bachelors in Elementary Ed. and I am currently working on my masters in Educational Leadership.
I am a mom of an almost two year old and two dogs. I have been married to my husband for two years but it is our 9th year together! As we all know teaching takes up SOOO much of "our time" I have found the ability to balance it all with the resources on TPT. I want to help out others find their balance in life by putting some of my lessons on here!
