I have taught grades 3 and 5, all subjects, grade 6 social studies and K-5 as an instructional support teacher for reading and later as a reading specialist. I have been a trainer of teachers in Readers Apprenticeship and trained 8 cohorts of teachers in RA. I taught for 30 years and recently retired.
Data driven instruction has been my mantra for years. If students are having difficulty reading (special ed or regular ed),educators need to closely examine where the phoenetic breakdown is occurring. This may not be a style but flexibility would best describe K-5 in one day with the most challenged readers in our school!

I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I also achieved my reading specialist cert at age 58 (so proud) After that, I have had an eclectic mix of post graduate work along with plain and simple years of experience.
I have been a reader as far back as I can remember. My goal as a teacher was to try to motivate children to want to read and love learning as much as I do.
