I have been teaching 5th grade for 6 years at a wonderful school in Sterling, Virginia. I teach in an inclusion setting with kids of all ability levels.
When I was in the fourth grade, I had the most wonderful school year which eventually motivated me to become a teacher. My teacher, Mrs. Smith, actually managed to make learning FUN, giving us the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways, all the while maintaining order and a positive working environment. I utilize a lot of the same strategies in my teaching and aim to motivate students with my own enthusiasm for learning. We learn through hands-on activities and games- anything to get our brains and bodies active! I try to incorporate as many collaborative activities as possible as I believe this helps children to learn.

I graduated from George Mason University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in English (concentration in cultural studies). After graduating, I worked for over six years at a software company but left to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I once again became a student at George Mason University, this time earning my Master of Elementary Education degree and Pre-K-6 teaching licensure.
When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband, Jason, and our adorable (energetic!) son, Nicholas. We also have an adorable dog named Angel. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, writing, anything artsy or creative, and hanging out with friends.
