Hi and thanks for checking out my store! I have been a teacher for 6 years in high poverty, LEP, rural Alaskan villages. I have to pull out all the stops to make sure my kids get what they need. Everything I create here I use extensively in my own classroom, and continue to edit and update as I see the need. I have taught Pre-K through Grade 1, but Kindergarten is my absolute favorite!
My teaching style is probably most influenced by the Waldorf, Montessori, and Reggio methods. I teach to the AK standards, but in a DAP way, and make sure critical thinking, oral language, and social skills are also priorities. I believe that Kinders have the right to play, indoors and out, every day, and mine do. It makes such a huge difference in their attitude towards school and they learn so much from it. This year, I haven't once heard "I'm bored," so I think I'm on the right path! :)
Yet to be added
I have a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education, and I am a year away from a Masters in Cross Cultural Education.
Some info on my village, if you're wondering about it: I live in Western Alaska, in what's known as the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta. My village is fly-in only, which means there are no roads connecting it to other villages or towns. The population is around 500, and the only businesses are the city office, the post office, and 2 small grocery stores. Milk is $9 and butter is $6. The majority of the population is Yup'ik Alaskan Native. We are surrounded by wilderness, which is paradise if you're a fan of the great outdoors. I originally moved here from my home in NY because there weren't many jobs available there. I thought I'd come up here and get a year of experience before returning home. But I fell in love with this place, met the right guy, and now I'm stuck. :)
