I have been teaching middle school for eight years. I'm in my second year teaching 6th grade ELA and Social Studies. My first six years were spent as a 7th grade special education inclusion teacher, with a mix of co-teaching and small group pull-out. I am also a licensed Reading Specialist who does 1:1 reading interventions through a program at Boston University. I use my reading expertise, as well as my special ed background, each and every day in my classroom!
I believe in well-structured lessons with clear expectations and regular routines; I've learned that with middle school, if you leave kids down time or ambiguity, they WILL take advantage of it! I always do my best to use researched based practice and to do whatever I can to activate my kids' motivation and engagement! Given my special ed background, I also do my best to use UDL strategies so that all learners can succeed.
