My teaching experience includes K-12 in a variety of settings and subject areas. Right out of college I taught "Computer and Technology" at an elementary school. I also taught the teachers how to use computers and technology in their classrooms to enhance their lessons and create more engaging activities. I have also taught middle and high school English Language Arts in private and public schools. My specialty is 9th and 10th grade ELA -- I just love that age group. In addition, I have also taught Peer Mediation, Leadership, and Journalism. I have experience as a Student Government Association sponsor (8 years) and a Newspaper Publications advisor (5 years). Currently, I teach in a public high school and serve as a PBA (Positive Behavior Approaches) School Coach and Assistant Director of Student Activities.
My teaching style is all cooperative learning and Kagan strategies. I use group discussions and think-pair-share quite a bit, and let the students take a role in their own learning. I am a stickler for routine and structure, with clear procedures and utilize the power of repetition to train my students to perform at the highest level.
I received the 2015 Jostens Renaissance Educator of the Year and was also recognized in 2012 with an Excellence Award for Leadership.
I earned my BA in Secondary Education, English, from Niagara University, and my MS Curriculum and Instruction at Scranton University.
I have two children, Dominic and Josephine, and a wonderful husband, Sam, who is also a high school teacher. Needless to say, our lives revolve around school!
