My style is a compilation of several models, delegator and facilitator. I would include the facilitator model as part of my style because I offer activities that involve independent learning through active participation and collaboration with other students. But the use of individual vs group products in my classroom is my preference, and while some student-to-student collaboration and problem solving might occur, individual ownership of products that evidence creativity and original thought is the expectation. These expectations place the delegator hat on my noggin as assignments are individualized and students are given choice in the design and implementation of their own complex learning projects and will act in a consultative role.

New York born and educated, I was transplanted to Indiana in 1968 when my husband left the military. We have two daughters, three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. I currently teach at Raymond Park middle / intermediate school, in MSD Warren Township, holding valid licenses in New York and Indiana with certification in English, science, social studies, gifted and talented, as well as an MS in reading from Indiana University. I am a three time Eli Lilly Teacher’s Creativity Fellow, a winner of the Golden Apple Award, a Jon Holden DeHaan Fellow, an Indiana Stakeholder, and I write for several professional journals. I have taught at MSD Warren for the past 28 years as a language arts / humanities teacher, secondary level… generally middle school. Prior to my Warren experience, I taught freshman composition at IUPUI and supervised the Title One (for IPS) tutoring program (K-12) at the Marion County Children’s Guardian Home in Indianapolis. I am a secondary teacher with a passion for teaching English, researching folklore, and studying medieval English history via nursery rhymes at Oxford and Cambridge for three summers. My years of experience have not dulled my love of teaching; technology has enhanced my creation of unique lessons which students embrace. It is with their endorsement, my students, that I have taken this first step in sharing what has worked in my classrooms. I hope my efforts can help you.
