I have been working in the field of education for nine year first as a one on one, in home tutor, and then as a classroom teacher. During my time as a classroom teacher I have taught World History, Ancient History, U.S. History, Church History, World Religions, 6th grade English, Computers, and Apologetics. Additionally, much of my classroom experience has been in a first adopter 1 to 1 iPad school. This provided a rich environment for learning tech integration and tech tool for every day teaching which I hope to be able to share through teachers pay teachers. While a tutor I worked with students on all subject areas with students as young as 1st grade through college students. I currently work for a charter school in California that supports Homeschool families and independent study programs.
I am fond of the Socratic Method and love to have discussions in class. I will often give a lecture or have the students read then follow it up with a discussion which models and explains critical thinking on the topic being discussed. I encourage students to disagree with each other and with me as long as they can provide reasonable arguments defending their position. That being said I believe that students need to learn how to work hard even when it isn't fun or engaging. We all know that life isn't always fun. (someone has to do the dished)
