TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have many hours of observation and assisting in first grade. My student teaching was in sixth grade. My mentor teacher got sick on the first day and let me take the reins for my time with her. I have taught in fifth, fourth, and third grade. I also taught second grade for nine days. Teaching electives at a Magnet school allowed me to use my own creativity and interests to make lessons more engaging. I have coached Odyssey of the Mind and Science Olympiad for two years each. My Science Olympiad team won third place at our competition last year. I am known for my knowledge and interest in Science. I enjoy teaching Writing which very few teachers would admit. I enjoy reading what my students write and guiding them through the Writing Process.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to challenge my students' thinking and try to put them in charge of their own learning. I try to give them work that is open ended which allows students to complete it to their ability. I am one of the few teachers who wears ties for which I am recognized for by students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I presented myself a PRIDE award for doing a good job being myself.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned my Bachelors of Science in Education from California University of Pennsylvania where I had some excellent professors. Professional development since then has focused on Science and Writing.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I hate snow and cold weather, so I moved to North Carolina.
