I have worked with children for over 25 years. During that time I was a nanny, a preschool teacher, foster parent, yoga teacher for children, after school director, yoga teacher for special needs adults, art teacher for kindergarten, art teacher for special needs adults, and also taught a cooking class for special needs adults! I love working with children and have worked extensively with children who are on the autism spectrum and/or have sensory processing issues. After teaching yoga to children for several years I created my own curriculum, Yogalore, which combines yoga and sensory activities for children.
I love teaching yoga to children, in the hopes of instilling a lifetime love of yoga within them. I am not a yoga teacher who alters poses and moves children around during class (unless there is a safety issue of course). I don’t want children to feel like they are doing something wrong, and it has been my experience that they improve so much within the course of a year. Seeing their body awareness, strength, muscle tone, and self-confidence grow is a very fulfilling part of my job. I also have a sensory component to most of my classes, which the children love and also has many benefits along with all the benefits of yoga. Movement and play are a great foundation for learning and I feel it provides a fun and beneficial environment for children to grow, learn and thrive.
