As a New York State teacher of 16 years, I have come to truly understand the requirements of modern-day education. Currently a high school teacher of grades 9,11, 12, I do have experience in grades 6, 7, and 8. A 1 students to 1 computer initiative in my classroom, and the use of the latest modern technology, sets the bar in my school for 21st century learning. My age and recent tenure award have allowed me to have the fresh knowledge of successful educational practices, and creativity that will intrigue today's student.
A successful high school lesson and unit must do the following: require the student to be responsible for his/her understanding; challenge the student to think beyond the obvious, gathering a deeper understanding; integrate technology; and offer many differentiated options for varying learning styles.
I have attended several technology conferences, including the nationally known technology conference, ISTE. My classroom has become a 21st century classroom, including 1 computer to every 1 student. I have been recognized by my fellow area educators for my work to enhance the classroom and learning experience for my students.
As a New York State teacher I come with the prestige of the New York State Certified Professional Educator certification. I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English Education, and a Master's Degree in General Education with a concentration in English Literature. My education continued outside of college as I have over 350 hours of observation and student-teacher training. As I have been teaching on my own for 6 years, I continue to attend education development seminars and training sessions.
I am an ambitious, often overly perfectionistic, English teacher looking to continue to refine my skills. I solely believe in learning from my own mistakes and the criticism I receive from the people I work with (and teach to). I have been blessed to start a family with my husband after the recent birth of our son, Owen. I am truly happy with what life has brought us thus far, and I look forward to what the future will bring!
