I have been a high school science teacher since 2002. In 2008, I developed an Alternative Fuels Academy, in which the students learn about the science of petroleum, electricity, batteries and biofuels, while building electric cars and converting diesel cars to run on vegetable oil and biodiesel.
Teaching Style and Philosophy The same way food tastes better if it’s beautifully served, I believe that students learn better if their lessons are giving to them in a clean, organized way. I have adapted a style where I use an easy to read font and font size with spacing that creates a definite delineation between ideas. I learned this from a colleague who teaches special education and have extended it to all levels. The way I teach is teacher-centric, but I deliver the information in a fun and interesting way. Let’s face it, we are competing with a lot of other bright, colorful, fast moving technologies for the attention of our students. I believe my lessons help me create an exciting way of delivering lessons and I think it will work for you too. If you just don’t have the time to create colorful powerpoints with pictures that help you explain your science lesson, let me help you. I have already spent countless hours at my computer, racking my brain, cutting and pasting, animating slides, reviewing these lessons, creating worksheets that support the powerpoint and making assessments that fit the lesson. I have also carefully selected which labs, projects and activities would help me reinforce these lessons. I created the Science of Alternative Fuels and want to help schools add this class into their course offerings. It is based on replacing petroleum with alternative fuels for vehicles.
