I have taught in the elementary setting for about 25 years. I taught in 2nd grade and 3rd. Shortly after teaching in the classroom, I devoted 10 years teaching reading at the same elementary school. Currently, I am the Literacy/Instructional Coach at a Georgia elementary school with a strong background in reading program development. I received my doctorate in Educational Leadership simply to combine the two necessary forces in education... leadership and reading...hence my quote, "Leading with Reading".
Social Constructivism is my preferred theory of instructing students with a gradual release of responsiblilty embedded. The graphic orgarnizers I create follow this theory of teaching by gradually releasing the responsibility to students.
Too many to mention

My creation of graphic organizers will follow the gradual release of responsibility theory. Students will be given a guide on the first organizer that teaches the skill followed by examples. The second organizer will only display examples the students can use to trigger their thought processes. The last organizer does not require student prompts because the students are given the opportunity to show what they have learned.
