I will describe my teaching style pictorially using a tree. The roots consist of traditional reading, writing, and arithmetic. This incorporates literature, phonemic awareness, print-rich concepts, whole-word approaches, drill, and memorization. The trunk consists of diversity, community, and collaboration. In this area, the environment is benefited through student-led questions, projects, documentation, and group-work using hands-on materials. The branches and leaves widen the horizon through creativity, fun, and in-depth understanding of all subjects, engaging the whole child.
