Multiplying by 2 digits poster

I was gettign ready to teach decimal multiplication to my grade 7’s when through a diagnostic I noticed that more than half of them needed serious review on the standard algorithm when multiplying by two digits. So I made this. I wanted them to put the numbers in to the spots by following step by step. I asked them to follow the example to see how the rule applies, then follow it themselves. We used this as a guide to answer many questions.

This product hangs in my classroom as a reminder to students of how to solve any problem. It is broad in scope and intends to teach students how to think about mathematics and science rather than always learning an algorithm for a specific situation. The poster is a key supporter in a problems-based learning environment. The ratio for the poster is 3:4 and ideally is printed on a poster printer sized 30 x 40 inches.
