Parallel Lines and Angle Relationships City Design Project

Created by
Pachy San Store
I have used this project to help students learn about parallel lines and angle relationships formed by parallel lines cut by a transversal. You can use it as an internet activity with dragging icons and lines onto the page on page #5 or a paper copy activity on page 4 and page 6. It's really fun and interactive for all students. Thank you! I added 2 examples of the paper copy of the project.

Students will create a town map made of different geometric figures. They will demonstrate their knowledge of parallel and perpendicular lines, acute and obtuse angles, geometric shapes as well as many other geometric concepts through this creative and fun project. This project can be adapted to higher level geometry courses and high school classes. You can add parameters to the geometric shaped buildings (ex. must label the dimensions of the building given a certain area or perimeter).

My Marvelous Map Project

This fun, hands-on math project allows students the opportunity to show what they know about their geometric math terms. They are to research U.S. interstates, famous landmarks, and rivers to display the different geometric terms they have learned. For example, the columns of The White House, in Washington, D.C., display parallel lines. You are going to create an interstate map of the United States representing our geometric vocabulary terms. You may create your project on poster board, card

This art-integration project is designed to give 3rd graders practice in creating shapes with different attributes (ie parallel lines, quadrilaterals, shapes with right angles, etc). Students also practice working with warm and cool colors. The finished product is a bright design of shapes over a cool background. This can be done in pastel, water color, crayon, marker, etc. The project meets standard CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.G.A.1 and creates a meaningful and emotional connection to the content.

This project integrates the arts with symmetry and congruent shapes in a rigorous and relevant way. This can be done as a homework project or in class. There are 2 versions included (I updated the original to be more Common Core focused). The task includes artistic practice with line of symmetry, parallel lines, perpendicular lines and real life examples of symmetry. This works well with 3rd-5th graders.

This is a fun project I used around state testing time to help students review shapes and angles (and social studies-bonus!). Students worked in pairs to create a map of a town using specific terms that I picked out. They also had to write a key to show that they understood where they used parallel lines, certain shapes, etc. It was fun and creative- my favorite! :)
