Presidential Parade with Floats!
Students will enjoy participating in a Presidential hands-on learning project. This project stimulates creativity, problem-solving, research and oral presentation into one collective project for grades 4-8. You can simplify or allow for complexity! The floats can be made individually or collaboratively as a small group project.
The lesson includes a simple and a complex version. It also gives keys, instructions, Common Core Standards and a Rubric to score the activity.

Creativity and history combined into one great week long unit. This unit was inspired by the book Balloons Above Broadway by Melissa Sweet. This book is a William Allan White book nominee this year. Students will learn about Tony Sarg, the creator behind the balloon floats used at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. They will research the history of the parade from 1924 until today. As a culmination, to the unit they will create their own float for the parade based on a popular icon of today.
