Coyote, Buzzard, and Young Buffalo - Native American Small Group Readers Theater

Created by

This Reader's Theater is for 4 - 7 students. Some parts are small so I usually use 4 students and have them double up. It is a Navajo tell about Coyote. In the script, Coyote has grown old and Buzzard is waiting for him to die so he can eat him. Coyote goes to Buffalo to ask him to share his youth and power. Buffalo doesn’t like Coyote but feels sorry for him so he gives him some youth. He won’t give Coyote power though. Coyote is turned into a buffalo with a coyote tail. He is warned he has no

The Farmer and the Rats: A 3-Minute Fable

This is one of the fables from my script The Not-So-Famous Fables of Bob Aesop. The cast includes one or more narrators, a farmer, and three rats, all of whom have speaking parts. I write my scripts to be performed as an ensemble - no stars. Everyone's parts are relatively the same.

This reader's theater is for the entire class! You will need at least 11 students but more is always better. This ties into my other twisted fairy tales except that it was written to do as a class. I split my class into two groups and both groups practice. When we perform we discuss what things we liked about each group. I use this to introduce the small group reader's theaters I have them do the rest of the year. I have also come back to the script at the end of the year to perform in front of

Abraham Lincoln - A Truly HONEST Man! - Small Group Readers' Theater

This Reader's Theater was written for a small group of 3 students. It is used a lot around President's Day but could be used anytime. This ties in Social Studies with Language Arts! It is about Abraham Lincoln's nickname, 'Honest Abe.' In the script, Margret is a little mixed up about why Abraham Lincoln was called ‘Honest Abe’. She got a bad grade on her test because of it. Harry and Michael try to help her out by telling her a few of the true stories of times when Abraham Lincoln was honest.
