Common Core 1st Grade Math Downloadable Songs and Lyric Book
These 38 songs teach EVERY SINGLE Common Core 1st grade math standard. Some of these songs were used in a 2009 study of 286 students. The researcher found that the songs decrease anxiety, increase motivation, and increase mathematics achievement (Kokobas, 2009; see reference below). This funky song helps teach/review the 12's multiplication facts, and also teaches two number sense strategies to help understand them.
The first strategy covered is adding the tens fact and the twos fact.
6 X 12 is equal to the sum of 6 x 10 and 6 X 2
or
72 = 60 + 12
The second strategy is doubling the 6 fact.
(If 4 X 6 is 24 than 4 X 12 is simply twice that, or 48)
